The City of Jacksonville seized the opportunity to create a ribbon of open space in the surrounding urban matrix by purchasing this property. Much of the 4.5-mile trail will run through residential areas, providing residents alternative off street routes for jogging, walking, biking and rollerblading. The development of this trail will offer the surrounding citizens a safer transportation alternative to vehicle-dominated streets as well as a linear recreation corridor. There is great potential for linkage with other trails, parks, schools, churches, historic sites and retail centers in the area.
